The Role
Genomic Health's Chief Medical Officer (CMO) plays a key role in contributing to the strategic plan and in bringing innovative high-value tests into oncology and urology practice by leading and developing the global medical team that supports research, development, health economics, clinical operations, pathology services, medical publications and communications, and medical affairs for all present and future tests. The CMO will lead the Medical Department, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The Medical Department includes: Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Health Economics, Medical Affairs, Medical Publications and Communications, and Clinical Pathology. The CMO and his or her staff will spearhead the identification of impactful clinical decisions in the care of cancer patients that can be addressed using high-value tests and be responsible for the development, validation, and execution of clinical strategies across the lifecycle of all products. The position has functional responsibility for the clinical and scientific oncology, urology, and pathology activities in the company. The CMO and the physicians that report to him/her will be responsible for developing strategic plans for the company's product portfolio to ensure the development programs for new tests meet market needs as well as the high standards required by patients, physicians, payors, and regulatory agencies. The CMO and his/her Medical Team will act as leading spokespersons for the company with key opinion leaders at scientific conferences and advisory boards. They will also provide executive level strategic guidance to the Medical Affairs activities of the company. The CMO and Medical Team will closely interact with multiple functions within Genomic Health including Research and Development, Commercial, Operations, Legal, Regulatory and Quality, and Finance, as well as the rest of senior management and external collaborators in a manner that is consistent with company values and culture.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:
* Develop and manage the leaders of the global medical team that support the company's research, development, commercial, publication, health economics, and reimbursement activities to bring innovative genomic tests into clinical oncology and urology practice and support revenue growth.
* Ensure the continued development and alignment of the global medical team through effective leadership and management including attracting top talent; prioritizing key initiatives; communicating and integrating strategies and tactics across an inter-dependent team, providing meaningful leadership and learning experiences, and delivering impactful coaching and performance feedback.
* Ensure appropriate objectives and resources are deployed to meet strategic portfolio plans and deliver on key IVD and LDT product development and commercialization milestones.
* Develop and clearly articulate a rich set of opportunities for new high-value IVD and LDT products, that answer impactful clinical decisions in the care of cancer patients, working closely with LifeCycle Product Management, Business Development, and R&D. Provide expert opinion and due diligence research on business development opportunities and internal product concepts.
* Collaborate in the creation and implementation of the strategic and tactical plans for the development of new IVD and LDT tests to ensure that the programs meet utility, quality and safety standards required by patients, health care providers, and global regulatory agencies, as well as obtain reimbursement globally.
* Ensure test surveillance activities are consistent with established regulations and internal SOPs to meet or exceed safety and compliance objectives and quality standards.
* Ensures that the Genomic Health Medical team builds and maintains key opinion leader relationships consistent with commercial and product development objectives. Work closely with Business Development to maintain broad relationships with key potential industrial partners including Pharmaceutical and Diagnostic companies.
* Provide executive oversight to ensure development and execution of the company's Medical Publications and Medical Affairs strategy, including clear metrics aimed at driving adoption, market share and further commercial goals, working closely with the Commercial Organization.
* Represent Genomic Health in a variety of external forums such as scientific and industry conferences, advisory boards, meetings with regulators and payors, as well as investor meetings and calls.
* Build and grow collaborative relationships with multiple Genomic Health groups such as the global Commercial Organization, Product Lifecycle Management, R&D, Legal, Regulatory and Quality, and Business Development.
* Manage functional budget and resources and enhance the productivity of function.
Genomic Health is seeking an exceptional individual with strong clinical and scientific knowledge and industry experience, coupled with insightful leadership and organizational skills, to lead the Medical Department. S/he should have extensive experience in oncology clinical studies, developing product pipelines, and in collaborating effectively with clinicians, statisticians, and cancer biologists.

The successful candidate will be motivated by the opportunity to contribute to the discovery and development of high-value IVD and LDT diagnostic tests that transform our understanding and treatment of cancer. S/he will be familiar with leading-edge genomics technology platforms and interested in leading an outstanding group of clinicians, pathologists, medical science liaisons, medical communications, health economics, and clinical operations specialists. The candidate should be a strong organizational leader, communicator, and manager, with the desire and ability to oversee, mentor, and develop a globally located staff of about 40 people.

Required Qualifications:
* Medical degree required.
* The qualified candidate should have an extensive industry background. Experience bringing products/tests to market and demonstrated leadership in changing healthcare practice is required.
* 15+ years of clinical experience, including oncology diagnostic and/or drug research and development, with the last 5 years in a very senior role leading high-performing teams and significant initiatives and managing highly talented people.
* Experience developing IVD products, including interactions with global regulatory authorities.
* Strong business acumen.
* Excellent communicator with the ability to maintain open communication with internal employees, managers and external stakeholders at all levels.
* Established relationships with medical oncology, surgery, urology, and/or pathology KOL's highly desired. Experience interacting with leading teams with global representation is required.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively develop, communicate, and implement strategies and associated goals/projects through an organization. Successful experience working with the commercial organization is important. Demonstrated effective business communication to high level executives, boards of directors and the investor community.
* Demonstrated negotiation and problem-solving skills with excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities.
* Able to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner.
* Able to prioritize and drive to results with an emphasis on quality.

Desired Qualifications:
Strong track record of publications in leading scientific/medical journals desired.

Position located in Redwood City, CA. Travel required: 25-30%
