Vice President of Urology

Overview:

The VP of the Urology Business is accountable for the leadership, comprehensive planning and management of our US commercial urology sales, marketing, and medical affairs strategies and operating plans. He/she will lead in the development of a comprehensive strategic and tactical plan to maximize our US opportunity in this market. This position will report directly to the Chief US Commercial Officer, with a concentrated effort on forecasting, planning and exceeding all sales/marketing goals and corporate initiatives. This position will support the Chief US Commercial Officer in all facets of the U.S. Urology Business activities with keen attention to maintaining and promoting our corporate vision and values. The leader will attract, hire and develop a high performing team and will ensure the organization has the capabilities to execute our operating and long-term business plans.


RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

· Identify, plan and develop US opportunities in the urology customer/potential customer markets. Maintain a strong business acumen and partner with key customers in these markets while proactively and effectively communicating with the Chief US Commercial Officer regarding prospective business opportunities.
· Lead multi-functional teams to maximize our US opportunities with current urology products. Continually demonstrate excellent executive leadership skills in driving and partnering with all levels of the GHI organization to deliver on these goals (ie. Sales, Marketing, Managed Care, Medical Affairs, Product Lifecycle, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Communications, Commercial Services, Sales Operations, International, etc.)

· Identify key drivers and initiatives and implement programs in order to execute on these initiatives to expand GH leadership position in Urology. This includes ability to develop and lead an Account Based Marketing strategy for the Urology customer segment.

· Provide insight and vision that drives sales forecasting - volumes and revenue - for long-range planning as well as near term goals and expectations.

Provide expanded future vision for the Urology segment and provide direct input regarding the current pipeline of products in development along with potential opportunities for acquisition.

· Demonstrate excellence with attracting, hiring, training, counseling/coaching and developing high-performance teams.

· Motivate and empower his/her leadership team to successfully align resources to execute on all business objectives. Lead by example both in prosperous and during challenging times.

· Lead and manage complex cross-functional team projects with competing deadlines critical to our success: commercial strategy, brand planning, business development, patient advocacy, competitive analysis, etc.

Candidate Profile

Genomic Health seeks to attract an ambitious leader with substantial urology experience in the biopharma, biotechnology, medical device or diagnostic industry. The ideal candidate will have a commercial background and urology therapeutic marketing and sales expertise. We are also open to candidates who come with a consumer marketing background. The VP of the Urology Business will have the relevant clinical development and commercial background to enable him/her to lead a complex team and portfolio of projects, including all elements of: risk assessment and management, milestone setting and budgeting, resource allocation and progress reporting for informed decision-making.

The qualified candidate should have a strong commercial experience in having been a senior sales leader along with product marketing experience and able to work successfully in a highly regulated commercial environment. A strong and direct communication style coupled with the experience to provide leadership to a large organization. Experience bringing a product/test to market or demonstrated leadership in changing healthcare practice is highly desired.

· BA or BS required. An advanced degree desirable (MS, MBA).

· Twenty to twenty-five years in life science industry experience. Fifteen plus years in increasingly responsible leadership positions within sales/marketing (Bio/Pharma or lab) with a proven track record of experience managing to a P&L bottom line on a national and or global level.

· Urology market and/or lab experience required. Significant leadership experience driving a sales and marketing team in a growing competitive market. Previous experience for the development of an Account Based Marketing approach is valuable. Experience in the Urology Sales/Marketing area a plus.

· Managed Care experience desirable - contracting experience, preferably on the major pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical/lab or on the industry side of health care.

· Exceptional interpersonal, teambuilding, negotiation skills, with experience conducting business on a global basis.

· In-depth understanding of the sales, sales training, sales planning, marketing and customer service process.

· In-depth understanding of systems and analytics that support and track sales and contract performance.

· Experience with US regulatory/legal environment.

· Proven analytic skills with scientific papers and market intelligence. Ability to integrate and apply complex figures, data, and feedback in a professional manner.

· Strategic thinker with a vision to grow the urology franchise. Ability to translate strategy into action.

· Ability to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality.

· High potential for advancement with established leadership skills (future potential to run a Commercial organization).

· Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.

· Position located in Redwood City, U.S. travel required - 20%-50%. Minimal international travel

Proven ability to build, communicate, and execute operational and tactical strategies/plans/teams that have led directly to the commercialization of products in a practical time frame and within agreed economic parameters is highly valued. In addition, the personal skills, confidence, and credibility that has allowed him/her to integrate effectively into pre-established leadership teams is highly sought.

· Setting Strategy: The successful candidate will have demonstrated a record of innovative thinking across the entire value chain of the business enterprise. He/she will possess excellent judgment, integrity, decisiveness and the ability to architect and communicate the Company's Commercial strategic vision to both external and internal audiences. He/She will envision the long-term market potential for Genomic Health's products and position the business to capitalize on it. Anticipates emerging issues.

· Executing for Results/Managing Teams: He/She will set competitive goals and will be able to translate this vision to actionable plans.

· Coaching: A demonstrated ability to coach the Urology Business to outstanding performance.

· Communication Skills: Demonstrates excellent presentation and communication skills - the ability to influence and work successfully with varied audiences including investors, scientific and technical leaders, pharmaceutical and business partners, etc.

· Entrepreneurial Drive: Desire and proven ability to have an impact. An energetic self-starter with a strong work ethic and sense of urgency.
