Laboratory Technician, Analytical Laboratory - PM Shift

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for assisting the Clinical Laboratory Scientists and supporting the daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory. He or she has demonstrated the skills and competency to assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientists in automated sample processing steps and all other support functions, a good understanding of laboratory workflow, and the initiative to contribute to laboratory projects and to address laboratory needs and issues. The Laboratory technician may serve as a lead to the Laboratory Assistant team to coordinate tasks, divide the workload, manage projects and review documents as assigned.
The nature of the work requires excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible with tasks and schedules, and the ability to work independently in a team environment.


· Perform equipment maintenance according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures
· Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment in the laboratory for the performance of duties
· Manage RNA sample inventory
· Assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist with the preparation of reagents
· Monitor temperatures, respond to temperature alerts, generate reports using the Wireless Temperature Monitoring System, and perform a root cause analysis of deviations and implement a resolution or initiate a service request as appropriate
· Create sample batches, print labels and label tubes and plates
· Train Laboratory Assistants on current and new procedures
· Clean glassware, racks, and other laboratory supplies
· Ensures on-time calibration of laboratory equipment
· Accurately document and maintain all records for equipment and instruments
· Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for the resolution
· Perform Quality Assurance activities including internal audits and inspection preparation
· Identify process improvement opportunities and report to laboratory management or the laboratory continuous improvement team
· Expand job knowledge by participating in continuing education opportunities (e.g., GHI meetings, webinars, or other, upon management approval)
· Assist with organizing and maintaining personnel and training documents
· Assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientists in sample processing and plate assembly
· Set-up the liquid handling robots (e.g. Tecan, Hamilton) and assist with automated procedures using the robots
· Author, revise and review standard operating procedures as assigned
· Lead and/or participate in projects under the supervision of a CLS or Supervisor along with maintaining quality and efficient workflow of daily duties
· Provide guidance for new LAs and LTs, identify strengths and gaps, give constructive feedback, and provide peer review feedback for evaluations
· Other duties as assigned



· Minimum of an AA degree or equivalent required
· At least two years of related experiences in a high throughput laboratory, demonstrating a high level of competency when assisting in the analytical sample processing steps and all other supporting functions
· Ability to effectively communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences Ability to analyze and solve basic issues
· Ability to train Laboratory Assistants on current and new procedures
· Ability to participate in projects and complete assignments as expected
· Ability to divide workload evenly among Laboratory Assistants in accordance with operational needs.
· Ability to anticipate and adapt to changes in workflow and schedule
· Strong communicator with the ability to maintain open communication with internal employees, managers, and customers as needed
· Ability to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner
· Ability to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality
· Ability to work as part of a team


· Bachelor of Arts or Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science or related field
· Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
· Experience with quality and process improvement projects
· Experience in manufacturing
· Knowledge of quality control
· Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory regulatory requirements
· Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
